BRATISLAVA, March 29 (Xinhua) — HC Mikron Nove Zamky concluded the turnaround in the playoff qualifiers for a 3-1 win over HC Kosice to advance to the Slovak ice-hockey premiership playoffs on Sunday.
In what turned out to be the worst Tipos Extraliga season for HC Kosice since 1978, its opponent HC Mikron Nove Zamky won also the third consecutive match to relegate the 8-time Slovak champions.
A lonely goal late in the game did little to cut the home team’s 3-0 lead and thus the season ended for Kosice, placing ninth in the final standings.
HK Dukla Trencin also succeeded in the fourth match-up against the champions of the previous three seasons HC ’05 Banska Bystrica in yet another overtime to earn a spot in the upcoming playoffs, putting the series away at 3-1, as well.
Trencin’s Canadian forward Aaron Berisha became the hero of the day, pushing the game into overtime late in the third on a fastbreak and deciding it five minutes into OT on a turnaround shot with his second goal. Enditem
