MEXICO CITY, March 28 (Xinhua) — The Honduras men’s football team secured a place in this year’s Tokyo Olympics on Sunday by beating the United States 2-1 in the semifinals of the CONCACAF qualifying tournament.
The Central American team scored either side of halftime through Juan Obregon and Luis Palma before Jackson Yueill pegged a goal back in the 52nd minute.
The result at the Jalisco stadium in Guadalajara earned Honduras a place in the Olympic football tournament for a fourth consecutive time. They took fourth spot in Rio five years ago – the team’s best ever finish in the competition.
Mexico and Canada will contest the other Olympic berth for the Central American, North American and Caribbean region.
The Tokyo Games football tournament will be played from July 21 to August 7. Enditem
