HONG KONG, July 14 (Xinhua) — Hong Kong’s Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported 48 additional cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, including 40 local infections.
The newly reported cases brought the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Hong Kong to 1,569.
Among the 40 local cases, 24 cases are with unknown source of infection, Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the CHP’s Communicable Disease Branch, told a media briefing on Tuesday afternoon.
Hong Kong has seen a resurgence of local COVID-19 cases since 10 days ago. The CHP reported 41 local cases on Monday, a new high since the epidemic started in the region.
The current situation in Hong Kong is worrying as many cases involve the elderly or family clusters and many are with unknown source of infection, Chuang said, urging members of the public to raise vigilance and reduce going out.
According to Hong Kong’s Hospital Authority, as of Tuesday noon 1,229 patients with confirmed or probable COVID-19 infection have been discharged from hospital upon recovery, and 278 confirmed patients remain hospitalized in 12 hospitals, including six in critical condition and eight in serious condition.
After a 95-year-old female passed away on Monday, the total number of COVID-19 patients that have died in Hong Kong’s public hospitals has increased to eight. Enditem
