After winning the Buckinghamshire seat, which has been a Conservative stronghold since its inception in 1974, Sarah Green has become the country’s newest MP.

The election was sparked by the death of former Cabinet minister Dame Cheryl Gillan, who won the seat with a majority of 16,233 votes – or about 55% of the vote – in the 2019 general election.

Ms Green, on the other hand, received 56.7 percent of the vote in the by-election on Thursday, securing an 8,028-vote victory over Tory candidate Peter Fleet, who came in second.

With 1,480 votes, the Green Party came in third, while Labour came in fourth with just 622 votes.

Following Ms Green’s victory, the Lil Dems now have 12 MPs.

It’s as follows:

The following is the new Parliamentary composition:

“Tonight the voice of Chesham and Amersham is unmistakable,” Ms Green said in her acceptance speech.

‘Enough is enough, we will be heard, and this government will listen,’ we have said as a group.

“This campaign has demonstrated that no matter where you live or how ostensibly safe a constituency appears to be, if you want a Liberal Democrat member of Parliament, you can get one.”

“We will keep working to hold this government accountable for allowing Covid to rip apart the care homes,” she added.

We’ll speak up for the three million people who were denied financial assistance throughout the pandemic, and we’ll call on Boris Johnson to be far more ambitious in combating climate change, supporting frontline workers, and supporting small businesses.”

The result “sent a shockwave through British politics,” according to Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey, who believes the “blue wall” of Tory seats “can be smashed.”
