Indonesia reports 1,031 new COVID-19 cases, 45 new deaths

JAKARTA, June 17 (Xinhua) — The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 1,031 within one day to 41,431, with the death toll adding by 45 to 2,276, Achmad Yurianto, a Health Ministry official, said at a press conference on Wednesday.

He also said that 540 more people had been discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 16,243.

Within the past 24 hours, five provinces — Jakarta, Central Java, East Java, South Kalimantan and South Sulawesi — recorded a high number of cases, Yurianto said.

He explained the high number was recorded mainly due to the “more aggressive contact tracings” of coronavirus patients in hospitals of the provinces.

“This shows that massive tests have been conducted in the past weeks,” Yurianto added.

Meanwhile, no more positive cases were found in four provinces, namely North Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, East Nusa Tenggara and Gorontalo. Enditem
