‘It looks like someone was targeting her,’ says a pregnant woman who lost her unborn child in a Philadelphia shooting.
PHILADELPHIA — A pregnant woman unloading gifts from her own baby shower was confronted by someone who shot and killed her and her unborn child in northeast Philadelphia, according to police.
Shortly after 8:30 p.m., the 32-year-old woman, who was seven months pregnant, was struck in the head and stomach.
Police said it happened on Saturday in the Lawncrest area.
She was rushed to Einstein Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after 9:00 p.m.
According to police, her unborn child died just minutes later.
According to WPVI-TV, Deputy Commissioner Christine Coulter said at the scene, “The person who did this couldn’t be more cowardly.”
“We can’t stop people who are intent on shooting someone,” she said when asked what authorities can do about the ongoing violence.
When I look at this situation, it appears as if she was being pursued.”
There have been no arrests as of yet.
Police say they have no idea how many people were involved or what the motive was.
