Katy Perry recently admitted that she once considered suicide after her breakup with Orlando Bloom in 2017.
The pop songstress revealed that she had hit a downturn both personally and professionally at the time. Perry, 35, admitted to feeling vulnerable when she split with her then-boyfriend, Bloom, 43.
“My career was on this trajectory when it was going up, up and up and then I had the smallest shift, not that huge from an outside perspective. But for me it was seismic,” the singer shared during an exclusive interview with SiriusXM’s “CBC Radio One.”
On top of her split from the “Lord of the Rings” star, Perry also experienced poor album sales at the time, which further sent her mental state into a downward spiral.
“I had broken up with my boyfriend, who is now my baby-daddy-to-be, and then I was excited about flying high off the next record and the record didn’t get me high anymore… The validation didn’t get me high, and so I just crashed,” the “Roar” hitmaker confessed.
“I lost my smile,” Perry continued. “I don’t know if my smile was ever fully, like, authentically mine but I was riding on the high of a smile for a long time. Which was the validation, love and admiration from the outside world, and then that shifted.”
The two have since reconciled and got engaged on Valentine’s Day last year. The “Con Calma” singer shared details of her engagement with Bloom during her guest appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” at the time.
Perry recalled that after their dinner, she and Bloom had “pulled up to a helicopter.” The pop star was taken aback by the surprise proposal as her whole family and friends were there to witness the special moment.
As for how she overcame her struggles, Perry owed it all to being thankful and said that practicing gratitude was what probably saved her life. The singer shared that her finding “ways to be grateful” was what pulled her out of her own sadness.
Perry also talked about how she works on her relationship with God and that her hope relies on “something bigger” that created her for a purpose.
“Every person that’s been created has a purpose,” she said.
As of late, Perry and Bloom are expecting their first child together, a daughter, who is due this summer, Fox News reported.
