KUWAIT CITY, March 30 (Xinhua) — Kuwait on Tuesday launched an online forum to delve into the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the future of governmental services’ digitalization in the country.
The eighth “E-Government” forum, which has been changed into a webinar due to COVID-19 prevention measures, focuses on electronic services in Kuwait after the COVID-19 pandemic to boost e-Government program implementation and make the best use of all available resources.
At the opening ceremony of the forum, Yusuf Khalid Al-Marzouq, General Manager of Nouf Expo company said that the forum’s slogan, “comprehensive e-government is an urgent need beyond coronavirus,” reflects the current situation and challenges that are imposed by COVID-19 on Kuwait.
“As Kuwaiti citizens and businessmen, we have always looked for comprehensive e-government services that relieve us of the need to visit government institutions’ headquarters, we now urgently need to do it remotely,” he said.
For his part, Ahmad Al-Manfuhi, Director General of the Kuwait Municipality, said that the forum is a good opportunity to exchange experiences and come up with recommendations in order to develop governments’ services in Kuwait.
This forum will contribute to facilitating procedures by making use of digital systems, he said.
He revealed that the municipality is currently seeking to grant the private sector permission to issue building permits for private and investment housing according to an electronic system.
The building permits used to take from three to six months during the previous periods, and nowadays it takes only 48 hours to issue the permit, he added. Enditem
