A man who was caught having sex on a packed train told police he just “had to do it”.
Joseph Paul Darcy appeared in court with Tracy Hope Hartley after he was found having oral sex and intercourse on a train bound for Mandurah, south of Perth, Australia.
The pair, aged 43 and 36 respectively, were on the train when they were caught by transit officers on May 9.
The court heard Darcy became aggressive when he was confronted and threatened to knock out the two officers.
Magistrate Vivian Edwards told the couple, “the facts of this matter are disgusting to say the least”, the Mundurah Mail reports.
Public Transport Authority prosecutor Garry Gillam told the court the incident happened on a train leaving Warnbro Station at about 8pm.
Mr Gillam said the pair engaged in “fellatio” and “sexual intercourse” before they were spoken to by Public Transport Authority officers.
They had both been charged with one count each of attempting to obstruct a security officer in the course of his duties and disorderly behaviour in public.
Darcy was also charged with an additional count of disorderly behaviour in a police station or lockup.
Hartley was fined $1,800 – around £1,000 – and Darcy is due to be sentenced at a later date as he was subject to a suspended prison sentence at the time of the incident.
Darcy was remanded and will appear in court again on August 14.
