Manchester United are willing to offer Tottenham a player swap deal for Christian Eriksen in order to secure a January transfer for the midfielder.
The 27-year-old, who is in the final year of his contract, has made it clear to Tottenham he has no intention of signing a new deal. The north London club had hoped that the introduction of new boss Jose Mourinho might have changed Eriksen’s mind, but this isn’t the case.
As it stands the Dane is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club in January but Tottenham ideally don’t want to lose such a valuable player for nothing.
Several clubs across Europe are monitoring the player’s situation including Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG, Juventus and Inter Milan.
But according to Italian publication Calciomercato, Manchester United are considering getting ahead of the competition and are preparing to offer Tottenham a player swap deal.
The report claims the Red Devils are thinking about proposing a player exchange for Eriksen that would include Nemanja Matic.

Mourinho has a close relationship with Matic and signed the player while he was in charge of Chelsea and then again when he took over at United.
The 31-year-old has fallen out of favour since Mourinho left Old Trafford and has only made five appearances in all competitions under Ole Gunner Solskjaer this season.
Matic also recently liked an Instagram picture which had the caption ‘Matic waiting for January so Jose Mourinho can sign him’, however, this was later dismissed by Solskjaer as the player just expressing a sense of humour.

The Serbia international is also in the final year of his deal, although Untied do have the option to extend the player’s contract until 2021.
And while player swap has not been rejected, it is likely Tottenham will still want some money for Eriksen.
It is understood Spurs offered Eriksen to United for £80m last summer but would now be willing to sell the player in January for less than half of what they were previously seeking.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it a priority to sign a forward in January but the club are also looking to strengthening their midfielder as well.
Calciomercato claims Inter have been in contact with Eriksen’s representatives although talks suggest the Italian side will not be able to meet the player’s wage demands.
However, the report also says Juventus are still in the running for Eriksen.
The Serie A champions have a history of taking players on a free transfer and in the summer they took Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot from Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.
However, the Old Lady have also not ruled out the possibility of also reaching a decision in January with a player swap deal of their own.
It’s suggested Juventus could offer Rabiot, who has only made nine appearances in all competitions this season, despite the player having joined in the summer.
