A former Married At First Sight star has issued a warning to this year’s participants about on-camera behaviour.
Melissa Lucarelli, who shot to fame on season six of the series last year, says that this year’s brides and grooms should avoid eating on camera as it can look unflattering.
In a blog post for The Latch, the 39-year-old wrote: ‘On average each couple were filming for 16 hours a day, give or take.’
She continued: ‘Apart from the dinner parties you are rarely seen eating on camera… except for me!
‘In 90% of my shots, I am eating. And it’s not polite eating. It’s mouth open, chewing furiously.’
The talent agent then said that she even received a message on Instagram from a viewer who told her to stop eating on the show.
‘A guy even DM’d me asking “if I would please stop eating on camera” like it was in my control,’ Mel admitted.
‘Honestly, I would never have thought they would use such footage, but it turns out, it depends on what role the producers see you as.’
She finished: ‘My advice? Be mindful of the cameras when you’re eating because you just might turn out to be the DUFF [designated ugly fat friend]of the season.’
Mel memorably gained some weight from stress eating while filming MAFS, which led her to go on a liquid shake diet halfway through the season.
She later landed an endorsement deal with Celebrity Slim shakes, with the star crediting them for helping her lose weight.
‘There were so many dinners to go to while on MAFS and I needed to lose a dress size quickly to get into my dinner party dresses,’ she said last year.
‘So I went on Celebrity Slim Rapid weight loss shakes to lose a dress size and a couple of kilos. It’s rapid. Tick. No exercise. Tick, tick. And I can drink coffee. Tick, tick tick!’
The brunette beauty also appeared on Today Extra at the time morning to promote the partnership.
‘The stress of the fact that I was going to marry a stranger, I was not sleeping and I was eating pretty much every hour of the day,’ she said.
‘I had put weight on without realising… I had gone on a dress size.’
Meanwhile, Married At First Sight is currently airing its seventh season on Channel Nine.
