Meghan Markle allegedly dropped warning signs about her unhappiness with royal life when she attended her first garden party just days after her royal wedding to Prince Harry.
Biographer Lady Colin Campbell has claimed that the Duchess of Sussex’s relationship with the royal family seemed rocky as early as four days after she officially joined the Firm. The “Diana in Private: The Princess Nobody” author highlighted an incident during the garden party for Prince Charles’ 70th birthday held on May 23, 2018, which was Markle’s first official engagement as a member of the royal family.
Campbell, whose new book “Meghan and Harry: The Real Story” will be dropping later this month, claimed that the actress-turned-duchess did something that “astonished” a person at the event with “impeccable palace connections.”
“I can’t repeat it exactly, it’s in the book, but what I can say is, something happened at the very first garden party at Buckingham Palace to celebrate Prince Charles’ 70th birthday and all of his charity work,” Campbell told Daily Star.
Campbell apparently heard a firsthand account of what happened during Prince Charles’ party during a dinner at her home at Castle Goring, Worthing in Sussex.
”Something happened there on the Tuesday, and I was told about it on the Wednesday evening at dinner by a household name with impeccable palace connections. We were all absolutely gobsmacked and astonished, we all thought this doesn’t bode well. It was not a good harbinger, we were all hoping against hope the information was wrong, but of course it was accurate,” she claimed.
Campbell admitted that she was emotionally invested in Markle’s success. In fact, when she was writing the book, she wanted it to be positive for the duchess. However, she felt that it was important to tell the truth.
The author went on to say that she understands that the royal family had a tremendous amount of hope for the duchess. They were rooting for Prince Harry’s wife, but it didn’t turn out to be a smooth ride for everybody.
“It would not be as quite as positive as everybody had hoped it would be,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have another book coming in August. On May 3, Prince Harry and Markle’s tell-all biography, “Finding Freedom,” by royal correspondents Omid Scobie and Carolyn Duran was posted on Amazon. The title of the upcoming release raised some eyebrows because many felt that it was shading the royal family.
“This has to be a joke. Freedom from what? They will never be happy,” @nikibik1 wrote on Twitter.
“If they want freedom buy a ranch/farm in the middle nowhere not in LA self obsessed couple that want to be bigger than there talent will allow!!!!” Michael Harris wrote.
