Meghan Markle’s BFF Jessica Mulroney distraught after being ‘ditched’ by ‘woke royal’ over race row

MEGHAN’s devastated former best friend was ditched so the duchess could appear woke, it has been claimed.

And Jessica Mulroney believes the royal rejection may have ruined her career.

The Sun can today reveal bombshell details about why the Canadian socialite is distraught about the breakdown in the friendship following a race row.

We have learned that the 40-year-old has told associates she feels a lack of support from Meghan means she has ditched her as a BFF and left her vulnerable.

Jessica’s concerned agents have been hosting a series of meetings with power players in Hollywood over the past week discussing how to rescue her career without the Duchess of Sussex’s help.

Someone with knowledge of the discussions told us: “Jessica’s team have made it clear that she feels completely ditched by Meghan and fears she is going to cut her out of her life for good.

“She’s completely distraught and devastated because Meghan has done nothing to stand up for her publicly. Jessica is terrified she will never work again.

“Meghan has forsaken her most loyal friend just to look woke.”

Former actress Meghan, 38, met Jessica in Toronto while filming US legal drama Suits.

But she distanced herself from her after she was exposed by Canadian influencer and blogger Sasha Exeter for using her “wealth and privilege” to attempt to shut her up in the midst of the Black Lives Matter movement.

She is losing so much work from brands who loved her connection to Meghan in the past but now feels she has become toxic.

The scandal started last month when Sasha posted a “call to action” to people with large online followings to support the Black Lives Matter movement.

Sasha revealed that Jessica seemed to think this was aimed at her — even though it mentioned nobody by name — and sent her a string of offensive messages.

She also claimed Jessica spoke to sponsors and companies that worked with her, which she said was “an attempt to silence a black woman during this movement behind closed doors”.

She called her response “textbook white privilege”.

Sasha also shared screenshots that showed Jessica threatening to sue her and which saw her sacked from her roles on bridal show I Do, Redo and Good Morning America.

But a source close to Jessica said: “She was stupid and tone deaf but she’s definitely not racist.”

After the scandal, Jessica — married to former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney’s son Ben, 44 — tried to apologise by referring to her friendship with Meghan.

She wrote on Instagram: “I have lived a very public and personal experience with my closest friend where race was front and centre.”

However, her work prospects now appear in tatters as many companies employed her partly because of her connection to the royal, according to our sources.

The insider added: “She is losing so much work from brands who loved her connection to Meghan in the past but now feels she has become toxic.

“All it would take is for Meghan to go out on a shopping trip with Jessica to show she still has her support. But the clear indication is that there’s not going to be any show of support like that.

“It’s a brutal blow after a ten-year friendship. Jessica has been there for Meghan through thick and thin.”

Jessica became best friends with Meghan shortly after she joined the cast of Suits in 2011.

Meghan started spending most of her time in Toronto and they quickly bonded over their shared love of yoga and fashion.

Jessica was a useful pal for the aspiring actress to have, as she is a high-profile stylist, influencer and a socialite in Canada.

The pair quickly became close and started taking holidays together, posting pictures of their trips on social media.

When Prince Harry, 35, and Meghan started dating and he visited her in Toronto, Jessica and Ben would host the couple at their family home.

As their relationship blossomed and became more public, Jessica also found herself in the spotlight.

It’s a brutal blow after a ten-year friendship. Jessica has been there for Meghan through thick and thin.

When Meghan was seen with Harry at the closing ceremony of the Invictus Games in 2017, she had her mother, Doria Ragland, alongside her as well as Jessica and Markus Anderson — who is said to have introduced her to the prince.

Jessica was said to be Meghan’s “unofficial wedding planner”, jetting to London to finalise arrangements for the big day in 2018.

She also attended a small hen party for the future duchess and made herself available for dress fittings.

Jessica was even said to have helped Meghan choose Givenchy as the designer.

Both Jessica and Ben attended the wedding and all three of her children took part in the ceremony — Ivy, then four, was a bridesmaid and her then seven-year-old twins Brian and John were page boys.

In February last year she also attended Meghan’s baby shower in New York along with stars including tennis ace Serena Williams.

All the attention saw Jessica’s star status soar, but some pals say that made Meghan uncomfortable.

However, the timing of the fallout could be particularly awkward for the duchess because Jessica could play a pivotal role in Meghan’s upcoming court case with the Mail on Sunday.

Jessica is widely believed to be the anonymous friend who briefed People magazine about the letter Meghan sent to her father Thomas Markle.

Pals think Meghan may need to try and keep Jessica onside to ensure she does not go rogue if asked to participate in the case.

However, Meghan is famous for ghosting those who were once close to her, with everyone from her school friends to her father to Piers Morgan being brutally cut off.

In fact, the term “being Meghan Markled” is now recognised online as a relationship term describing when people are chopped out your life without warning.

The source added: “When Meghan makes a decision to ghost someone she doesn’t usually go back.

“But, when it comes to Jessica, hopefully she has learnt her lesson from the past and realises that it’s not a great idea.

“Jessica knows all her secrets and everything she’s been through. This is not someone she wants to make an enemy of at this time.”
