And locals have been woken by the gulls yapping as they hunt for food in the early hours.
Colchester Hospital in Essex is treating people battling to stay alive with the coronavirus.
NHS Foundation Trust spokeswoman Fiona Sparrow said: “We understand seagulls are considered to be a nuisance.
“We would like to reassure our neighbours and patients that we are working closely with pest control experts who are helping us to manage the current situation at Colchester Hospital in a safe and controlled way.”
Local Lib Dem Councillor Martin Goss reported on Twitter that the winged menaces had been having “mass gatherings” and were a “nuisance”.
He said: “They have had chicks which have recently hatched and there is a huge amount of gulls in the area.
“They are waking residents up at about 4.30am every morning when it gets light as they are going out looking for food in the nearby estates.
“Professionals have been brought in to advise how to deal with it but they are a protected species.
“It is a difficult situation because the birds were here before the housing but we have to try and find a way to make sure residents are not disturbed like this.”
