Officers attempt to detain hostage-taking shooter in Moscow suburb

MOSCOW, March 30 (Xinhua) — An armed man took a hostage inside a house in the Veshki district in the suburbs of the Russian capital and opened fire at security officers when they were trying to catch him on Tuesday.

The elderly man, who is suspected of possessing illegal weapons, fired multiple shots and hurled grenades at Federal Security Service officers, who have sealed off the area, according to media reports.

Three adults and one child, who appear to be the suspect’s relatives, were also inside the building at the time of the shooting. Two of the adults and the child have managed to escape, while one presumably remains inside with the shooter.

No casualties have been reported and special operations are still underway. Enditem
