Premier League Rumors: Former Liverpool Star Advises Havertz To Choose Chelsea Over United

Kai Havertz transfer rumors have been gaining steam lately, with several teams keen on acquiring the German midfielder from Bayern Leverkusen. Chelsea FC and Manchester United are hot in pursuit of the 21-year-old, two popular teams that may be hard to choose from. But if the comments of former Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann are to be considered, Havertz may want to prioritize a move to Stamford Bridge over Old Trafford.

Hamann singled out interesting points, starting with the plight of both teams this season. Looking at the Premier League table, Chelsea is at the fourth spot, while Manchester United is not far behind at the fifth rank. Only three points separate the two clubs.

However, there is the Champions League to consider. If the appeal of Manchester City pushes through, the Red Devils will be booted out. Hence, the only way for United to qualify is to rack up the points and hopefully overtake the Blues.

But for Hamann, there are more things to consider on the part of Chelsea. The club is retooling, and one of the key acquisitions next season is international teammate Timo Werner. Aside from the German striker, Hakim Ziyech from Ajax is also coming on board. With the new faces under Frank Lampard’s watch, the outlook looks promising for the Blues.

“For the first time in a long time, you have a team with which the fans can really identify. If a Timo Werner or possibly a Kai Havertz were to be added, it would be an incredibly exciting and interesting story. If I think about where I see the clubs now and in two or three years, the decision for Chelsea would be a relatively easy one for me as a player,” Hamann said to Sky Sports Germany.

As mentioned in a previous post, Havertz is seen as a replacement to Willian and/or Pedro. The two veterans have yet to get new short-term deals. Further, the chances of that happening got a bit bleaker with reports that the two are hesitant to sign a short-term contract for fear of incurring injuries. If that holds up, Lampard may be better off revamping his attacking line with young and promising new players.

Now, it all boils down to whether the Blues can seal the deal and satisfy the asking price for the German. Talks have already started and Leverkusen is reportedly seeking a $94 million for Havertz.
