PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch facing ANOTHER new console rival in 2020

PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch may be facing competition from another new console rival in 2020.

PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch may be up against some fresh console competition when 2020 rolls around. The PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch are the biggest consoles around right now, with these systems dominating the gaming landscape. But 2020 – besides bringing with it some highly anticipated new games – is also ushering in a new wave of consoles.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X are the biggest consoles that will be arriving in 2020, with the next-gen consoles releasing during holiday 2020.

The new PlayStation and Xbox are the highest profile consoles that will be launching next year.

But it looks like these aren’t the only new systems that gamers can look forward to in 2020.

It has emerged that iconic Japanese developer SNK could be set to unveil their next console in 2020.

Earlier this year it was revealed that SNK had Neo Geo 2 and Neo Geo 3 consoles in the works.

It was claimed that these consoles would be “proper successors” to the original Neo Geo, according to a post by DualShockers.

The Neo Geo 2, however, turned out to be the recently released Neo Geo Arcade Stick Pro.

Like the Neo Geo Mini, this was a retro console that came with multiple games loaded onto it straight out of the box.

It was far removed from the “proper successor” to the original Neo Geo that fans had initially been teased about.

Fulfilling that promise now rests firmly on the shoulders of the as-of-yet unrevealed Neo Geo 3 hardware.

And now it’s been claimed that the Neo Geo 3 will get revealed by SNK in 2020.

YouTuber Madlittlepixel in a post online said that SNK will be announcing the Neo Geo 3 in 2020.

The YouTuber added that he has “people on the case” finding out more details about the Neo Geo 3 which he will reveal in the future.

Madlittlepixel has been on the pulse with Neo Geo news since the Japanese firm’s recent revival.

Earlier this year in a post online he correctly leaked that Samurai Shodown Neo Geo Minis were in the works before they were officially announced.

It remains to be seen whether the Neo Geo 3 does, as claimed, get announced in 2020 and what shape or form it will take.

Will it just be another classic-style console that bundles together retro Neo Geo games into plug-and-play hardware?

Or could SNK launch a genuine follow-up to the Neo Geo as previously reported?

If the latter is the case then fans will surely be wondering if this hardware becomes home also to the more modern games SNK have released in recent years.

This gen SNK has released King of Fighters XIV, SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy and 2019’s new Samurai Shodown game.

SNK has also confirmed that King of Fighters XV and a new Metal Slug game are in the works.

The former is being developed on Unreal Engine 4 and is planned for a 2020 release, the same year the Neo Geo 3 is meant to get announced.

Could the Neo Geo 3 have the specs to run these more modern titles, which would bring SNK hardware truly into the current era of gaming?

Or will the Neo Geo 3 merely be another retro console that isn’t on par with the PS4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch?

Fans will have to wait and see what the future holds, but either way it’s an exciting time to be a Neo Geo and SNK fan.
