BEIJING, July 23 (Xinhua) — Rainstorms are expected to lash areas along the Yangtze River over the next few days, complicating the country’s efforts to fight severe flooding, China’s meteorological authority said Thursday.
Parts of Gansu, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Chongqing, Hunan, Hubei and Anhui will brace for downpours from Friday to Sunday, with an accumulated rainfall of 100-200 mm, the National Meteorological Center said in a statement on its website.
The rainstorms will likely raise water levels in the Yangtze River and worsen floods, the center said, while advising residents in the aforesaid regions to remain alert for more possible flooding.
A total of 142 people have died or gone missing in floods across 27 provincial regions in China since June 1, official data showed. Enditem
