ROD STEWART has been slammed by some of his fans after he congratulated Boris Johnson in a Christmas message on Twitter yesterday, where the crooner wished the Prime Minister well.
Rod Stewart, 74, seemingly appeared to endorse Boris Johnson after his landslide victory in Thursday’s general election. The crooner took to Twitter and shared a sweet message after scoring his 10th number one album with new offering You’re In My Heart but was slammed by some of his fans.
In view of his 405,000 followers, the singer made reference to both Robbie Williams and The Who, who claimed the second and third spots in the charts and wrote: “Thank you once again to my legions of fans who I will never take for granted. Bless you all and a Merry Christmas.
“Well done Robbie, well done Boris, no hard feelings Pete Townshend! – Rod xxx.”(sic)
But his heartfelt message has left some of his fans fuming, with a legion of Celtic supporters slamming the performer for appearing to be a Tory supporter.
One person quizzed: “Well done Boris? Deary me,” while another person fumed: “What the f**k Rod? Pick a side you can’t be both.”

Another person commented: “Poor display Sir! what else would you expect from a knight of the realm? same lot subsidised by the Poors’ taxes, to lap it up and cover up.. let yersel doon with that statement Rod, don’t think Paradise will be so welcoming in future. Sad times ahead and you’ll hear about it.”(sic)
A fourth person added: “Rod just congratulated Boris…time to find a new fav singer dad x.”(sic)
However, some fans have hit back at the social media outrage in support of Rod as they said: “Well there is at least one person in Scotland who believes in democracy and the wellbeing of the United Kingdom.”
Another fan tweeted: “And now the left turn their angst and tears on @rodstewart because he congratulates Boris. Further evidence of @labour’s kinder, gentler politics, I guess?”
Rod’s message comes after he suffered an awkward blunder on Loose Women earlier this week, when the legendary singer was joined by his wife Penny Lancaster on the panel show.
The singer made an error at the very start of the programme, leaving his beloved to tell him to leave the set.
After head panellist Andrea McLean, 50, told viewers she and her fellow presenters would be speaking with Rod, the camera panned to the musician.
As she continued to tease his appearance, the singer started to walk towards the women on the panel, to which the host had to state he would be joining them later.

With no chair set up for him to sit on, Brenda Edwards, 50, got up to offer her seat to the music legend.
However, Penny turned to her husband and told him he shouldn’t be joining them at the beginning of the show, leading him to make an exit from the studio.
Joining the panel earlier than expected, Andrea told their guest: “Rod, you’re not on yet,” as he greeted all the women.
“You’re peaking too early,” she commented, with a member of the crew then bringing on an extra chair after Brenda gave up hers.
Penny told him: “You’ve come on too soon darling,” with the host asking: “Do you want to stay for this bit? You’re very welcome.”
After making the blunder, the singer left the set before coming back later on in the show.
Rod has been married to his wife Penny for 12 years after the couple tied the knot in 2007.
Speaking to The Mail on Sunday’s Weekend magazine, Rod gushed over Penny as he revealed she “keeps the family together”.
“Penny’s great,” he said. “She’s very grounded, but I don’t want to say normal because she’s extraordinary. She keeps the family together.”
