CAIRO, July 24 (Xinhua) — The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases exceeded 286,000 in Iran on Friday. Meanwhile, the medical unit of Chinese peacekeeping forces donated medical equipment and medicines to Lebanon.
Iran, the hardest-hit country in the Middle East region, reported 2,489 new cases, bringing the total number of infections to 286,523.
The pandemic has so far claimed the 15,289 lives in Iran, up by 215 in the past 24 hours. A total of 249,212 coronavirus patients have recovered, with 3,653 still in critical condition.
In the meantime, Head of the Red Cross center Ismail Amin told Xinhua that he received valuable medical aid from the Chinese peacekeepers to help combat COVID-19 in southern Lebanon.
In Lebanon, the number of COVID-19 infections increased by 147 to 3,404, while the death toll rose to 46.
Saudi Arabia announced 2,378 new cases and 37 more deaths, raising the tally of confirmed cases to 262,772 and the death toll to 2,672.
The kingdom also reported 2,241 more recovered patients, taking the total recoveries to 215,731.
In the meantime, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Turkey climbed to 224,252 after 937 new infections were reported, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca tweeted.
The death toll from the coronavirus in the country rose to 5,580 after 17 new fatalities were added in the past 24 hours, Koca said, adding 1,009 more patients recovered, raising the total recoveries to 207,374.
In Qatar, 394 new cases of coronavirus infections were detected, increasing the total number to 108,638, including 164 deaths and 105,420 recoveries.
In Iraq, the tally of coronavirus infections rose to 104,711 after 2,485 new cases were reported.
The country also reported 90 more deaths and 1,863 recovered cases, raising the death toll from the infectious virus to 4,212 and the total recoveries to 71,268.
Egypt’s coronavirus cases continued the slowdown trend to reach 91,072, with the addition of 659 new infections.
The Egyptian Health Ministry also reported 38 more deaths and 904 cases of recoveries, increasing the death toll to 4,518 and the total recoveries to 31,970.
Oman’s Ministry of Health announced 1,145 new cases of infections, raising the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 73,791, including 359 deaths and 53,007 recoveries.
Kuwait reported 753 new cases, bringing the country’s total number of infections to 62,625, of whom 425 have died and 52,915 recovered.
Israel reported 1,493 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the tally of coronavirus infections to 59,475.
The death toll of the virus in Israel increased to 448 while the recoveries rose to 26,797.
It is worth noting that the number of active cases in the country decreased for the second time since May 30, totaling 32,230.
On Friday afternoon, all shops, malls, barber shops, beauty salons, markets and libraries in Israel were closed until Sunday morning, as part of weekend restrictions.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced 261 new COVID-19 cases and one more death death, raising the tally of infections to 58,249 and the death toll to 343.
The total number of recoveries from the virus in the UAE increased to 51,235 after 387 more fully recovered.
In Morocco, the tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 18,834 after 570 new cases were added, which included 299 fatalities and 16,100 recoveries.
Palestine reported 545 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally of infections in the Palestinian territories to 12,427, including 3,112 recoveries and 73 deaths.
Libya reported 110 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally of cases in Libya to 2,424, including 504 recoveries and 57 deaths. Enditem
