RIO DE JANEIRO, June 22 (Xinhua) — Sao Paulo head coach Fernando Diniz has hailed the impact of Brazil international defender Dani Alves on his squad.
Alves joined Sao Paulo after parting ways with Paris Saint-Germain last August and the 37-year-old has impressed Diniz both on and off the pitch.
“He is the most unique player I have ever worked with,” Diniz told TV Globo on Monday night. “People don’t realize that besides being a great player he is a fantastic person who is always willing to share his wisdom with others.
“He gives us a very interesting dynamic. He understands the technical side of things while also providing leadership and experience. It’s been an honor to work with him.”
Alves has mainly been used in central midfield by Diniz and was one of Sao Paulo’s most influential players early in the current Brazilian season, before it was stopped amid the COVID-19 epidemic.
Diniz urged the country’s football chiefs to take caution in their plans to restart state and national competitions after a pause of more than three months.
“We have to prioritize lives. Now is the time to be careful because there is more doubt than certainty,” the 46-year-old said.
Earlier on Monday, Sao Paulo reported that one of their players and a staff member had tested positive for the virus. Enditem
