PARIS, June 16 (Xinhua) — The 16-year-old sport climbing novice Luce Douady was killed by a fall in south-eastern France on Monday, reported French media.
The youth was attempting to explore an unclimbed area before suddenly slipping and falling from a cliff, according to a BBC report.
“Luce was a young, brilliant and talented athlete,” the obituary from International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) read while the French climbing site Grimper called Luce the “future of climbing.”
Luce won a Youth World Championships title at last year’s competition in Arco.
She made a debut appearance and finished fifth in a senior event at the IFSC Boulder World Cup circuit, aged just 15. It is also reported that Luce was preparing to compete in the Tokyo Olympics. Enditem
