DAR ES SALAAM, July 16 (Xinhua) — Tanzania’s weather agency on Thursday warned strong winds and high waves in the Indian Ocean coastal areas and the country’s great lakes.
“The strong winds and high waves will occur in the next 24 hours,” warned the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) in its latest weather forecast.
TMA said strong winds reaching 50 kilometers per hour and high waves reaching 3.8 meters were expected over the entire coastal area of Lindi, Mtwara, Tanga and Dar es Salaam.
The TMA weather forecast added that the rough weather was also expected to hit Tanzania’s Zanzibar twin Islands of Pemba and Unguja.
TMA added that strong winds reaching 50 kilometers per hour were also expected in Lakes of Victoria, Nyasa and Tanganyika.
The weather forecast said the strong winds and high waves were likely to disrupt fishing activities and marine transport. Enditem
