Tokyo stocks open lower as ex-dividend issues sold


TOKYO, March 30 (Xinhua) — Tokyo stocks opened slightly lower Tuesday, despite an upbeat lead from the Dow Jones Industrial Average overnight, as investors sold issues that had turned ex-dividend.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 9.73 points, or 0.03 percent, from Monday to 29,374.79.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 18.47 points, or 0.93 percent, at 1,974.87.

Insurance, bank and construction-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
