Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly interested in re-signing their former winger who was once described as reminiscent of a young Lionel Messi.

The Spurs have their own transfer list ahead of the summer. In it, is the club’s former attacking midfielder and winger Marcus Edwards, a youngster once described by his boss as a player who has the potential of a young Messi.

According to Record (via Vital Spurs), Spurs are keen on pursuing Edwards, nearly a year after he parted ways with the Premier League club via a free transfer.

The report further stated that Edwards’ impressive stint in Portugal, playing for Vitoria F.C., haven’t gone “unnoticed.” English sources claim that he is now destined to return to his homeland as Tottenham are interested in bringing him back.

This season, the 21-year-old emerged as one of the most notable youngsters in Portugal.  HE has already scored seven goals and seven assists in 30 appearances in all competitions. this includes a remarkable goal against their English top-flight rivals Arsenal in the Europa League.

Edwards, who started his career with the Spurs, reportedly comes with quite a price as it is said that Jose Mourinho will spend as much as €25 million ($28 million).

During his Spurs days, the youngster struggled to break into the senior team under the tutelage of Mauricio Pochettino. However, that didn’t mean that Pochettino didn’t recognize Edwards’ potential. In fact, the former Spurs boss once lauded the attacking midfielder for having the qualities of the six-time Ballon d’Or winner.

According to Pochettino, Edwards can be a top player in the sport but he needs to build his future first.

“His qualities.  it’s only looks – his body and the way that he plays – remember a little bit from the beginning of Messi. He is a very good prospect and, potentially, he can be a top player but we need to be patient and tell him that he has a lot of talent, enough talent to be a top player, a great player, but now it’s how he builds his future – that’s very important,” Pochettino told The Guardian.

It is believed that Edwards returning to Tottenham could be a huge turnaround in his career as he is likely to be handed his first-team debut.

Another player being linked to the Spurs is Manchester United flop signing Alexis Sanchez. Reports claim that United are open to offloading Sanchez following a poor run with the Red Devils and Tottenham are one of the teams being viewed as his possible destination.
