If you forever want your special day to be remembered as being a bit weird and awkward, great news; weddings are back on in England from next week, although with all the new rules and an added sense of dread.
Weddings are allowed again from July 4, but ceremonies must be limited to no more than 30 attendees. Social distancing must also be maintained, hands should be washed before exchanging rings, and you can kiss each other if you want, but only if you’ve been doing it all the time while in lockdown so either both have it or both don’t have it.
The strangest new rule is a ban on singing, should you be a Welsh ex-pat maybe? Singing involves lots of hard breathing out, experts have told us, and this sprays around spit a bit more than usual. So no singing. That’s likely to be a relief for most people. Receptions are also supposed to be kept small, food is off as eating’s a whole new mess of contagion problems, and the current rules about only two households meeting indoors apply; so better book somewhere with a decent garden.
Sounds terrible. Congratulations, we suppose. [GOV via BBC]
