Young’s 49 points leave Jilin still searching for CBA playoffs


QINGDAO, China, July 17 (Xinhua) — The Jilin Northeast Tigers, just one win away from booking a playoff berth of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), lost to the Nanjing Monkey Kings 111-95 here on Friday, as Joseph Young scored 49 points and 10 rebounds in full time.

Two sides tied the game midway through the first quarter, and Nanjing managed a one-point lead at the end of the period.

Young and Hamed Haddadi, who just came back from a foot injury, combined for 19 points in the following quarter, putting Nanjing ahead by 16 points when the first half expired.

Young continued his glittering performance in the second half, putting the game beyond the Tigers’ reach.

He Jingjia contributed five of his 13 points as wells as five rebounds in the last quarter when Haddadi was benched. The 2.18-meter Iranian center finished with 27 points and 15 rebounds.

Sean Hill got a team-high 31 points and seven rebounds. Zhang Biao collected 12 points, while Cui Jinming and Dai Huaibo added 11 and 10 points respectively.

Jilin will spar with the Shanghai Sharks, the Guangzhou Loong Lions, the Zhejiang Lions and the Qingdao Eagles before the regular season ends. Enditem
