Young’s near triple-double leads Nanjing past Tianjin in CBA

QINGDAO, China, July 11 (Xinhua) — Joseph Young came a rebound away from collecting triple-double with 51 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds, helping the Nanjing Monkey Kings beat the Tianjin Pioneers 116-107 in the 2019-20 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) season here on Saturday.

Nanjing’s Feng Xin and Yu Changchun had to take COVID-19 tests before joining the team, meaning Nanjing had only eight players available on the roster.

“We only have seven players rotating in this game. They played very well,” Nanjing coach Cui Wanjun said.

Tianjin dominated in the first quarter, as they took an 18-9 lead after Jin Xin made a 3-pointer.

Nanjing found their way back in the second quarter, and Li Shengdong’s layup made it 58-57 at halftime.

Nanjing rode an 8-0 run at the end of the third quarter to increase the gap to over 10 points and won the game.

Tianjin suffered its 10th straight defeat since the league resumed last month.

“We didn’t do well defensively today,” said Tianjin coach Liu Tie. “Young players still need to train their mentality.”

Li Borun scored 18 points while Li Hongpeng added 16 points for Nanjing.

Five players scored in double digits for Tianjin. Shi Deshuai contributed 26 points, Liu Shuai had 21 points, and He Siyu finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Enditem
