QINGDAO, China, July 10 (Xinhua) — Five players scored in double-digits as the Bayi Rockets overtook the Jiangsu Dragons 94-83 in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) on Friday afternoon.
Bayi has won three of their past four games, and coach Wang Zhizhi gave credit to team efforts. “We played well in the second half as a team, and especially did a great job on rebound and limited Antonio Blakeney well in the final period,” said Wang.
Blakeney put on a dazzling show in a tightly contested first period, chipping in 11 points to help Jiangsu to a 22-21 lead.
Luo Kaiwen hit back-to-back jumpers to lead Bayi ahead before Blakeney connected from deep during a 11-0 run that made it 37-30 with 5:30 remaining in the second.
Bayi turned up the defense in the second half and responded with a 11-2 run. Arslan’s two free throws helped Bayi to trail by one point going into the final quarter.
With Jiangsu’s offense still bogged down in the fourth, Bayi retook control of the game, sparked by Arslan’s two straight assists. Bayi closed out the game after Liu Hangchu hit a clutch 3-pointer.
Zou Yuchen contributed 23 points and 10 rebounds for Bayi, which meant Blakeney’s 36 points were fruitless.
“Zou’s comeback provided a lot in the paint area for us, he has already adapted to the pace of the game,” Wang prasied.
“It’s a tough loss. They played better and it’s pity much for us,” said Blakeney.
Bayi will face Guangdong on Sunday, while Jiangsu goes against Qingdao next Monday. Enditem
