A Significant Departure from Urban Meyer’s Coaching Staff

Significant departures from Urban Meyer’s coaching staff have been announced.

On Sunday, Urban Meyer lost the first member of his NFL coaching staff.

Fernando Lovo, who joined the team from the Texas Longhorns, will be returning to Austin, according to the team.

“Oversee[s]various football support departments while also serving as Coach Meyer’s main liaison with the Front Office executive leadership team and Team President,” according to Lovo’s bio with the team.

It’s unclear why he’s leaving Urban Meyer and the Jaguars, but he won’t be the last to leave.

Jacksonville and its first-year NFL head coach have had a rocky start.

A reorganization of the staff is almost certainly in the works.

Meyer had previously worked with Lovo at the University of Florida and the University of Ohio.

Meyer then poured him into the NFL after serving as Tom Herman’s assistant at Houston and UT.

At both schools, his primary responsibility was to oversee off-field operations such as strength and conditioning, sports medicine, video, and non-coaching matters, and now Lovo is returning to the Longhorns.

It’s unclear whether it will be in the same capacity.

The Jaguars coaching staff has been at odds over Trevor Lawrence’s development, according to reports.

To begin the season, the rookie quarterback has had some difficulties.

The No. 1 seed has won nine games in a row.

He’s thrown for 1,983 yards, eight touchdowns, and nine interceptions as the No. 1 overall pick.
