According to reports, a potential replacement for John Wall has emerged.
John Wall of the Houston Rockets has yet to play this season and has no plans to do so in the near future.
With a trade as the most likely next step, he has at least one suitor.
The Miami Heat would “consider” trading for Wall if certain conditions are met, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
The most important of these is that Wall’s contract be bought out first.
Unfortunately for the Rockets, this could prove to be a difficult obstacle to overcome.
Just over a week ago, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Wall is unlikely to forego his $44 million salary this year or his $47 million player option next year.
In his reporting, Woj also mentioned that any team interested in trading for Wall would almost certainly demand that he decline the player option.
On NBA Countdown, Wojnarowski said, “There are no plans for John Wall to play for the Rockets, and it’s becoming increasingly likely that John Wall will not play anywhere in the NBA this season because the cost of his contract right now is just too prohibitive.”
In a blockbuster trade for Russell Westbrook, John Wall was dealt to the Houston Rockets in 2020.
As the Rockets went 17-55 that season, he averaged 20.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 6.9 assists in 40 games.
Unfortunately, the Rockets have had a bad start to the season.
With a 1-14 record, they have the worst record in the NBA and will likely struggle to win in 2022.
Right now, Wall’s contract is an albatross around the Rockets’ necks.
Moving him, in some form or another, must be a top priority.
Will John Wall join the Miami Heat, or will he be traded to another team?
