Atletico Madrid are preparing to ‘go all out’ for Joao Felix as they look for a suitable replacement for Antoine Griezmann.
Felix enjoyed a breakout season with Benfica as the 19-year-old shone for his club in the Europa League and on the domestic front.
That form led him to be named in the Portugal squad that lifted the Nations League on Sunday evening after beating Holland.
And now he is set to be the focal point of a transfer scramble involving some of Europe’s top sides – including Manchester United and City – with Atletico the latest to join the race.
According to AS, the capital club are willing to bid £70million for the forward, offering him a six-year contract.
The majority of that fee is likely to be raised by the impending sale of Griezmann.
The Frenchman has made it clear that he intends to leave the club this summer, and it was thought a move to Barcelona was inevitable.
However, speaking after France’s 4-0 EURO 2020 qualifier win against Andorra, he revealed that he may yet leave Spain this window.
‘I want my future to be decided more than anyone, but there’s a need to wait,’ he told reporters.
‘I don’t know if I’ll remain in Spain. Maybe in two weeks we’ll know something. I just want to play football and have fun.’
