Atletico Madrid want Ante Rebic to replace the outgoing Antoine Griezmann.
The Spanish club are resigned to losing the France international this summer after he released a video confirming his decision to leave the club.
The World Cup winner looks set to join rivals Barcelona once his buy-out close decreases next month, leaving Diego Simeone with a sizeable hole to fill in his squad.
And according to Bild, the Argentinean is targeting the Croatian international as a direct replacement.
Rebic only signed a four-year deal with Eintracht Frankfurt at the beginning of last season having originally joined on loan from Fiorentina.
He impressed last season, helping his side reach the Europa League semi-final where they were beaten on penalties by eventual winners Chelsea.
Frankfurt are believed to want more than £40million for the forward, having already lost Luka Jovic to Real Madrid for £62m.
Atletico are not the only club to have shown interest in the Croatian, with Inter also monitoring his availability.
