Colin Cowherd Reacts To Mel Tucker’s Big News
According to the Detroit Free Press, Michigan State is about to offer Mel Tucker a huge contract extension.
The 10-year contract is worth $95 million and represents a significant financial commitment to Tucker, who has the Spartans in contention for the Big Ten title in only his second season as head coach.
On Twitter today, FS1’s Colin Cowherd addressed the Tucker news and expressed his full support for the move, which he believes indicates Michigan State is attempting to transition from a solid “Tier Two” program to an elite “Tier One” program.
“I believe this is the best course of action.
Michigan State will now pose a threat to the Wolverines.
“Because I’m that kind of coach,” Cowherd explained.
It’s worth noting that under Mark Dantonio, Michigan State didn’t just compete with Michigan; they dominated them from 2008 to 2017.
In that time, the Spartans won eight of ten rivalry games, as well as three Big Ten titles to the Wolverines’ zero.
However, when it comes to prestige and recruiting, MSU lags behind its in-state rival.
Tucker, who is 2-0 against Michigan in head-to-head matchups, must have convinced Cowherd that he can make a difference in those areas.
We’ll see if Tucker can lead his seventh-ranked Spartans past the No. 1 team in the country.
This Saturday, 5 Ohio State Buckeyes will be in Columbus.
