Jorge Masvidal has called out Conor McGregor and told him to ‘stop flirting’ ahead of a possible money-spinning bout between the pair.
McGregor enjoyed the perfect comeback to the Octagon after demolishing Donald Cerrone in just 40 seconds in Las Vegas on Saturday, and the 31-year-old immediately invited his rivals to step up and challenge him, saying: ‘Any one of these little mouthy fools can get it’.
But BMF title holder Masvidal has reignited his war of words with ‘Notorious’, claiming that he doesn’t want to face him and urged him to make a date.
‘All I know is that he don’t want the fight so I don’t give a f**k no more, I’m moving on from that fight man,’ he told Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.
‘This dude don’t want the fight. I’m not here to bully it.
‘This guy doesn’t want to f**king fight man. Leave him be. Once he gets the trilogy with Nate [Diaz], god bless him, do your thing my brother. I cound’t give a f**k less.’
McGregor has been linked with a couple of big rematches – one against Floyd Mayweather after the undefeated welterweight teased fans with a picture saying ‘Mayweather McGregor 2, 2020’. Another has been mooted against Khabib Nurmagomedov, who beat him by submission in 2018.
US fighter Masvidal claims that the Irishman is all talk and insisted he won’t wait around forever as ‘the tiger need to get fed’.
‘Right there he could have cut the sickest promo of all time, the things he’s been saying. I don’t think so.
‘And I personally, the tiger, need to get fed so I’m going to need to get in the cage with someone I’m getting bored already not f**king fighting.’
He urged him to ‘stop flirting’ and sit down with his team to arrange a date, with early July a possibility.
‘Stop flirting and put it together man. July 6, international fight week. I know March is already booked, May is Brazil, all this stuff. So I guess July international fight week would be a great time to have the f**king biggest event in the history of the sport.
‘So Conor, if you want to do it, let’s do it bro. If not, let me know, I’ve got s**t to do man.’
A rivalry between the pair has been hotting up. After watching the Irishman take out ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone from ringside on Saturday night, Masvidal teased his potential opponent, tweeting: ‘Saw what I needed to see.’
And Masvidal caused a stir by wearing the same Versace gown McGregor wore before fighting Mayweather in 2017.
UFC President Dana White has previously claimed a bout between the pair is a ‘bad idea’, and urged him to wait it out.
He said: ‘Conor has this idea, too, that if things don’t go his way and he [doesn’t] get the fight [with Khabib], he’ll have had a 170 fight in his pocket again and [is]considering a [Jorge] Masvidal fight.
‘I think everybody knows what I think about it. I think it’s a bad idea.
‘Conor gets p***ed off when I say it’s a bad idea, and he’s like, “You think I can’t beat Masvidal?”
‘I’m not saying you can’t beat Masvidal. Anybody can beat anybody on any given day, but why? Why go after that fight when you could possibly just wait?’
