The legendary Aussie batsman is said to have suffered a ‘massive heart attack’ in the hotel.
Another former Australian legend, Brett Lee, is said to have performed CPR in a desperate bid to save his life.
But Lee’s heroic efforts were in vain, with Star Sports releasing a statement confirming Jones’ death.

‘Deano’ scored 11 centuries, including a top score of 216, playing a huge role in Allan Border’s legendary side.

And there was a common theme, with people quick to point out how kind ‘Professor’ was – as well as being exceptionally talented as a cricketer and pundit.
In complete shock to hear about Dean Jones sad passing. One of a kind you were Deano and how lonely and helpless you must have felt on your own in that hotel room-a death we commentators fear the most, and likely to meet, helpless and gone in that hotel room…RIP my friend.
We will miss you & your voice, Professor. 🙏

Terrible news about Dean Jones, who has died in India while working for TV on the IPL.
Fabulous batsman, original thinker, double-century in a tied Test and man who helped revolutionise white-ball strategy, fielding, running and so much else. RIP Deano.
