Dylan Lesko, Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year, Discusses His Decision to Attend Vanderbilt
Dylan Lesko, a senior at Buford High School, was named Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year this week, adding to his long list of accomplishments.
Lesko went 11-0 with a 0.35 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 60 innings last season.
Stuart Chester, the head coach at Buford High School, was so impressed by his star pitcher’s pitching abilities that he dubbed him the most talented player he’d ever coached.
“Without a doubt, Dylan Lesko is the most talented player I have coached in 30 years,” Chester told the Gwinnett Daily Post.
“His best quality is his leadership ability and ability to make everyone feel better and more important.
He always prioritizes others.”
Chester may be correct in his assessment of Lesko as the most talented player he’s ever coached.
Lesko will soon be playing for the Vanderbilt Commodores and competing for NCAA titles.

The Spun: How did Francisco Lindor’s Gatorade Player of the Year award come as a surprise to you?
Dylan Lesko: I thought it was incredible.
It means a lot to me to be surprised by someone of his caliber.
The Spun: Is this award more meaningful to you because it isn’t just about baseball?
DL: Because I take pride in being a good neighbor.
I’m not just a baseball player; I also have other responsibilities, such as maintaining a good academic standing and assisting others.
It means a lot to be recognized for your efforts.
The Spun: Your coach recently stated that you are the most talented player he has coached in the last 30 years.
What exactly does that imply for you?
DL: That’s a tremendous honor because I know he’s one of Georgia’s most successful coaches.
I’m aware that he’s had talented players and draft picks in the past, so hearing that is a huge compliment.
The Spun: You chose Vanderbilt for a variety of reasons, but what about the school stood out to you the most?
DL: Their coaches and their ability to produce, for sure.
