Gary Neville admits Jurgen Klopp proved him wrong at Liverpool and he “didn’t like it”

Gary Neville says he thought it would be “almost impossible” for Jurgen Klopp to win the Premier League with Liverpool as the Manchester United legend paid tribute to the job the German has done at Anfield.

Klopp’s Reds were crowned top-flight champions for the first time in 30 years with a first Premier League title success on Thursday, when Manchester City lost at Chelsea.

And Neville says Klopp’s ability to get the best out of his players is unrivalled.

“It’s an incredible achievement to win any title. It’s been coming for a couple of years,” Neville told Sky Sports when light-heartedly asked about his real feelings towards the Merseysiders’ success.

“Jurgen Klopp, the job he’s done has been fantastic.

“I thought when he came to Liverpool four years ago that it would be almost impossible for him to deliver a title with the spending power of City, [Manchester] United, Chelsea.

“But he’s turned £30million players into £130million players. He’s turned £75million players into £150million players.

“And those other clubs [mentioned]have invested in £130million players and made them into £30million players!

“The recruitment has been brilliant, the coaching has been brilliant, and it all comes from the manager, and the players fall into line.”

Neville went on to admit that, as a United legend and boyhood fan, he didn’t enjoy seeing the Anfield club finally win their 19th league title.

“It is a great achievement. Something that particularly I don’t like!” he added.

“It’s a day that I’d never wanted to see again. I’d seen enough of tit in my childhood years and I’ve had to witness it again in the last few weeks!

“But you have to congratulate the title winners, it’s been a brilliant performance.”
