JACK WILSHERE has confirmed he and West Ham have mutually agreed to terminate his contract after two years at the London Stadium.
The 28-year-old – who was believed to be £100,000-a-week – joined the Hammers on a free deal after his contract at Arsenal expired in 2018.
And despite the midfielder having another year to run on his deal, the midfielder has now become a free agent.
Injuries have limited the England international to just 19 appearances for West Ham.
He has featured in just one game for the East London side this campaign – the 5-1 win against Hull in the Carabao Cup on September 22.
Wilshere has failed to be involved in six matchday squads, leading to speculation he could leave.
And Wilshere took to social media to announce the news, as he said: “I can confirm that I have today agreed the termination of my contract with West Ham United.
“When I joined the club in the summer of 2018 I joined with great hopes and expectations and was excited to join the club I’d supporters as a young boy.
“Unfortunately, despite all of my best efforts and intentions, it has not worked out as I’d expected.
“I have been fully fit fit for a large period of time at the club, including over the course of the last eight months – working hard every day – but unfortunately have nit been given the opportunity to play.
“Although I am of course frustrated that I was not able to fully showcase what I am capable of at West Ham I remain convinced that I can still contribute at the very top of the game.
“I am still incredibly hungry, ambitious and desperate to play football an achieve success.
“I’m still only 28 and feel fit, strong and ready to play.
“I’m now looking forward to the future and hope to be able to make an announcement about the next stage of my career in due course.”
Declan Rice replied to Wilshere’s tweet, as he said: “Gutted. It was a privilege to get to train and play with you mate.
“Your (sic) going to be massively missed around the place, I wish you all the best in the future brother. Love ya.”
The two-time FA Cup winger spoke of his future last month, where he stated he would be open to playing abroad.
Speaking to The Times, he said: “I just want to play games and get back to the level whether that’s at West Ham or somewhere else, different country, a different culture maybe.
“I still feel like I’ve got something to give whether that will be in England, in Italy, Spain or anywhere.
“I want to prove people wrong and most of all for myself to see if I can get myself to a high level again.
“I want to show people what I can do. Any footballer that says he’s happy being on the bench is lying. I want to play.
“I want to get a run of games, 15-20 games which I still think I can do and have an influence on games and get that confidence back.”
Semi-professional side Hitchin Town have offered Wilshere a place to train until he finds a new club.
They tweeted: “@JackWilshere if you need somewhere to keep fit while you find a new club, we’re in the market for a 28-year-old creative midfielder from Hitchin. You know where we are.”
To which Wilshere responded by saying: “See you tomorrow. What time? Don’t need to be getting fined day one.”
Hitchin then joked: “TRAINING WAS TONIGHT, JACK. Seriously though, Thursday night @ Baldock Arena & we’ll allocate you a locker. Safe x.”
See you tomorrow. What time? Don’t need to be getting fined day one 🤣🤫 https://t.co/Qw7jBe7ryg
