Jude Bellingham reveals talk with Jadon Sancho helped him snub Man Utd transfer and admits ‘I’m glad that saga is over’

NEW Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham has revealed that a conversation with Manchester United target Jadon Sancho helped convince him to snub the Red Devils and move to Germany.

The 17-year-old was subject of a fierce transfer tug-of-war between the Bundesliga giants and Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side showed him and his family around their Carrington training complex – even getting Sir Alex Ferguson to come along and chat with the youngster.

But eventually Bellingham “fell in love” with Dortmund and decided to move to Lucien Favre’s side in a £25million deal.

Upon his arrival from Birmingham City, he said: “The record Dortmund have got with young players in recent years is unrivalled in European football.

“Weighing all that up and the people we met there, the stadium and fanbase, it made me fall in love with the club as well.

“I’ve met Sancho and we have spoken. He is a great example of what you can achieve if you do the right things.”

I chose Dortmund because it is the perfect step for my development. I am just glad that saga is over.

Bellingham also expressed how difficult he has found it to cope with the intense speculation surrounding him this season, and how he is looking forward to knuckling down in Germany.

He continued: “I chose Dortmund because it is the perfect step for my development. I am just glad that saga is over.

“It was a lot of annoyance to me and there was a lot of noise at the time when all I wanted to do was play for Birmingham.

“Now I haven’t got the chance to do that anymore, but I would like to think I made the most of it.

“It is sad this is how I leave Birmingham, but I am really optimistic about the future.”

He may be disappointed with how he had to leave St Andrew’s, but his former side are unlikely to forget him in a hurry – having bizarrely decided to retire his No22 shirt despite him featuring just 41 times for them.

So Bellingham has arrived at Signal Iduna Park to link up with Jadon Sancho – but for how long is an entirely different matter.

The England international, ironically, could be on his way to Old Trafford this summer – with the Red Devils having made him their No1 target.

Dortmund are reportedly scouting a potential replacement for their No7 in Werder Bremen’s Milot Rashica – and Jesse Lingard has became the latest Red Devils to urge Sancho to move to Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old said in his role as ambassador for American Pistachio Growers: “Jadon is a brilliant player. It is obviously up to him.

“I’ve seen him with England, I’ve seen his qualities and I feel like he’d be a great addition to any team.”
