Kirk Herbstreit Names His Top Virginia Tech Candidate

Kirk Herbstreit and his staff didn’t just look at USC as a coaching prospect.

Herby and his “College Gameday” coworkers discussed Virginia Tech’s future plans on Saturday.

Earlier this week, the Hokies parted ways with head coach Justin Fuente.

Herbstreit also has a suggestion for who the school should focus on next.

“I think Virginia Tech’s Napier,” the ESPN analyst said.

Louisiana is currently coached by Billy Napier.

The 42-year-old head coach has a 37-12 record in four seasons with the Ragin’ Cajuns.

Napier previously worked as an assistant coach at Clemson.

From 2006 to 2010, Napier was a member of the ACC’s Tigers.

After losing to Miami on Saturday, Virginia Tech fell to 5-6.

In order to remain bowl-eligible, the Hokies must defeat Virginia in hostile territory.

Fans of Virginia Tech must pine for the days of legendary coach Frank Beamer.

During the Beamer era, the Hokies were consistently in contention for national titles, winning more than ten games 11 times in a 13-year span. Beamer retired from coaching Virginia Tech in 2015.

Shane Beamer, Beamer’s son, is also a candidate for the Hokies’ coaching job.

Coaching Virginia Tech is his “dream job,” according to the current South Carolina coach.

Shane Beamer was a member of the Virginia Tech football team and served as an assistant coach during his father’s tenure, which lasted from 2011 to 2015.
