FORMULA 1 ace Lewis Hamilton’s dog has gone vegan — and is said to be already noticing the health benefits.
Lewis, 35, revealed the news by posting a picture of British bulldog Roscoe on his pet’s Instagram page, which has 178,000 followers.
The six-time world champion wrote: “Hey guys, so Roscoe is now fully vegan.
Since he has gone vegan, his coat is much softer, his swollen paws have healed up, he is no longer limping with pain of arthritis and his breathing has opened up.
“Super happy with the result and he is too.”
When Lewis got Roscoe in 2013 he called him his “best buddy”, saying: “I grew up with dogs around me.
“My mum has five dogs and my dad too. I’ve always wanted dogs and never had the opportunity so I went for it. I’ve got him a passport and he’s going to travel around with me.”
Seven-year-old Roscoe even does a bit of modelling work.
Lewis said: “Roscoe is now part of a modelling agency and he has auditions, he will go up against 10 or 15 different bulldogs, they will need a bulldog for a product.
“He gets paid, $700 (£560) a day, it’s ridiculous and he gets his treat, he loves it.”
Increasing numbers of owners are feeding their pets vegan diets, a recent study has revealed.
Dr Sarah Dodd, from Ontario Veterinary College in Canada found that one in five dogs were fed a vegan or vegetarian diet.
But scientists have warned there are risks as shop-bought food is not boiled to kill harmful organisms, meaning there is a risk of spreading antibiotic resistant bacteria.
Last month, Lewis was left heartbroken after his other bulldog, Coco, had a heart attack and died in his arms.
