Liverpool have cancelled their August 6 friendly against Schalke to give them time to prepare for the Premier League opener with Norwich three days later.
The European champions begin their domestic campaign against the newly-promoted Canaries on Friday, August 9.
And the Schalke friendly, Liverpool’s final opportunity to prepare for the upcoming season, will now be on another date.
A statement on the Liverpool website read: ‘Liverpool’s planned pre-season friendly against Schalke on Tuesday August 6 has been postponed. Following Thursday morning’s announcement of the Premier League fixtures for the 2019-20 season, the Reds will face Norwich City at Anfield in the opening game of the new campaign on Friday August 9.
‘The Schalke fixture has therefore been postponed in preparation for the early start to the Premier League season. Liverpool and Schalke will work together on setting a rearranged date for the friendly in 2020.’
The Friday-night Premier League curtain raiser will be broadcast to launch the 2019-20 campaign.
Liverpool face Europa League champions Chelsea in the European Super Cup the following Wednesday, August 14.
