JORGE MASVIDAL stopped off in Rome to buy PIZZA for his flight to UFC 251 Fight Island despite being more than a stone overweight.
The MMA star, 35, shared a picture of himself outside Rome airport and another scoffing a slice of the good stuff on a private jet.
Masvidal agreed to step in on just a week’s notice to challenge welterweight champion Kumaru Usman at UFC 251.
Despite having an almighty battle on his hands to make weight, the American couldn’t resist a slice of genuine Italian pizza.
Masvidal shared the pictures to Instagram, captioned: “Was in the mood for some pizza so made a quick stop #theresurrection”.
The UFC star recently revealed he tipped the scales at 191lb when he was offered the title fight in the 11th hour.
He must shrink down to 170lb by Friday’s weigh in.
But the veteran is not phased by the gruelling weight cut ahead.
Masvidal told ESPN First Take: “I got 20 pounds to go.
“I’m taking the fight on six days’ notice. When they made the fight official I weighed 191 pounds but I can lose that weight.
“I’ve been doing this a long time, it won’t be the first time I have to cut a crazy amount of weight at short notice.
“Like I’ve always said God has my back so I’ve got no worries.”
Masvidal, a former lightweight, was initially set to headline the UFC’s inaugural Fight Island event in Abu Dhabi.
But he failed to agree terms after a row over his cut of the pay-per-view sales, which led to the American threatening to walk out of the UFC.
Gilbert Burns was then handed the fight against Usman until he was ruled out following a positive coronavirus test.
Despite the public spat between Masvidal and the UFC, they were able to come to terms following last-gasp talks to salvage the main-event.
