Rennes chief confirms Edouard Mendy ‘wants to join Chelsea’

Rennes president, Nicolas Holveck, has confirmed Edouard Mendy’s desire to join Chelsea.

The Blues are in the market for a new goalkeeper in the wake of Kepa Arrizabagala’s woeful campaign.

They have been linked with a number of top stoppers but Mendy has emerged as the most likely candidate.

It is thought that a bid of £30million will be enough to tempt Rennes into parting with the 28-year-old, and Holveck has now confirmed his desire to leave the club.

Rennes president Holveck to @bidrac14: “We’ve started official negotiations with Chelsea to sell Edouard Mendy. We know the player wants to leave [and join Chelsea]. But the agreement at the moment is not 100% completed between the three parts”. 🔵 #CFC #Chelsea #transfers

He said: “We’ve started official negotiations with Chelsea to sell Edouard Mendy.

“We know the player wants to leave [and join Chelsea]. But the agreement at the moment is not 100% completed between the three parts.”

And Chelsea may not be finished there, with reports suggesting they could still be targeting versatile West Ham star Declan Rice to finish off what is already a remarkable transfer window of business.
