The nation’s top high school hooper is arriving in Lexington early.

Shaedon Sharpe, the top recruit in the Class of 2022, announced in January that he will forego his senior year of high school football to attend the University of Kentucky.

Sharpe told Sports Illustrated, “I’m going to enroll in January.”

“After Christmas, I’ll be reporting down there.”

However, I will not be playing this season.

I’m going to be a redshirt freshman.

I just want to get a head start on college basketball by training with players who are older, bigger, stronger, and better.”

The 6-foot-5 guard is far from the first player to take such a step.

Hamidou Diallo, a 2017 Kentucky recruit, also enrolled in January and redshirted his freshman season.

Sharpe continued, “It just makes more sense to go play where I can elevate my game the most.”

“I came up with this, and when I told the coaches about it, they were all on board.”

Sharpe is widely regarded as one of the country’s most exciting young basketball players.

He’s a playmaker and a ferocious finisher who can also knock down three-pointers at a high rate.

The 18-year-old two-guard from Canada averaged just under 26 points per game while shooting 45 percent from three and grabbing 6.4 rebounds for Dream City Christian in Glendale, Arizona.
