The MLB Community Reacts To Kyle Schwarber’s News From Thursday

This offseason, Kyle Schwarber is just one of many intriguing MLB free agents.

Over the next few weeks, teams from all over the league are expected to show an interest in the veteran slugger.

He appears to have already attracted the attention of one of his former clubs.

According to Alex Speier of MLB Network, Schwarber, who spent the 2021 season with the Boston Red Sox, is in Ohio this week with Nationals manager Dave Martinez. Martinez confirmed this on MLB Network Thursday morning.

Of course, the 28-year-old outfielder and first baseman knows the manager from his time in Washington last year.

The Nationals’ season didn’t go as planned last year, and the NL East team was one of the biggest sellers at the trade deadline.

Schwarber was one of the players with whom Washington parted ways, sending him to the Boston Red Sox for the remainder of the season.

The Nationals, on the other hand, haven’t ruled out reuniting with the All-Star in 2021.

Mike Rizzo, the Nats’ general manager, stated at this year’s general manager meetings that he would be interested in bringing Schwarber back to the nation’s capital if the opportunity arose.

Fans of the Nationals, who praised Schwarber’s performance in 72 games last season, were ecstatic to hear Rizzo’s endorsement and Martinez’s update on Thursday.

Many believed the team was close to securing the free agent for next season and beyond.

The excitement among Washington fans was understandable.

Last year, Schwarber had his best season of his career, so having him back in Washington would be a huge boost for the Nationals.

Last season, Schwarber was an All-Star in both Washington and Boston.

In 113 regular-season games, he hit 32 home runs and drove in 71 runs. At the plate, he had career-high splits of.266/.375/.554.

The Nationals aren’t the only team interested in signing the veteran slugger in the coming days, but it’s possible that their familiarity with him will give them an advantage.

If Washington is able to reach an agreement with Schwarber quickly enough, only time will tell.
