At Sony’s recent event, The Future of Gaming, we got see several new PlayStation 5 titles such as a remake of Demon’s Souls and Horizon Forbidden West. Even the console itself was shown off and it’s being joined by a digital-only version. Now, it appears that this radical departure in console design isn’t the only thing being changed.

According to The Verge, Matt MacLaurin, Sony’s VP of UX design at PlayStation, talked extensively about how the PS5’s user interface (UI) was being overhauled in a now-deleted LinkedIn thread.

“As it’s UI it’s practical first, but it’s a whole new visual language and a complete rearchitecting of the user interface,” stated MacLaurin. He also said that it’s “more subtle than flashy, but no pixel is untouched” and that the PS5 UI contained a “100 percent overhaul of the PS4 UI and some very different new concepts.”

Hopefully we won’t be waiting too long to find out what this new design looks like. The PS5 is set to release in Holiday 2020, with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Arkane’s Deathloop also releasing in that timeframe.
