A top Alabama cop has been forced to apologize for a Facebook post where he said Nancy Pelosi could be targeted with a roadside bomb on her way home and called Democrats ‘Dumbocrats’ after she was seen ripping up Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech.
Jeff Buckles, the assistant chief of the Geraldine police department, in DeKalb County, made the shocking remarks on social media after House Speaker Pelosi was seen ripping apart her copy of the president’s address on Tuesday night.
‘Pelosi just ripped up his speach (sic),’ Buckles posted on his personal account.
‘Road Side bomb on her way home and any other Dumbocrats.’
The official later apologized for his remarks in a separate Facebook post Wednesday but defended his actions citing his sadness that ‘our great country is so divided’.
‘I want to apologize for venting on FB,’ wrote Buckles.
‘I have definitely offended some people with my remarks. It just rips my heart out that our great country is so divided.’
Buckles also seems to have removed the original post, but not before it had been shared and commented on by hundreds of social media users.
Several users slammed his words as ‘terroristic’.
Buckles Facebook account is littered with posts slamming the ‘Dumbocrats’ and praising Trump, including one where he says Trump was sent by God.
‘I honestly believe that God has placed Donald Trump in the position to bring about prophecy. God Bless Trump. God Bless America.’
In another post on January 15 when the articles of impeachment are signed, the officer says Pelosi ‘makes me sick’.
Geraldine Mayor Chuck Ables said on Thursday that he and Police Chief Heath Albright were gathering information and will meet with the town’s attorney Friday to decide the best course of action.
Ables also confirmed that Buckles was not on duty Thursday or Friday but insisted that the cop hadn’t been suspended but simply had prearranged days off prior to the incident, according to AL.com.
There was no love lost between Pelosi and Trump on Tuesday as the State of the Union cemented their hostility towards each other.
It began when Trump snubbed Pelosi as he started his speech, by ignoring her when she extended a handshake to him.
He turned away as she took her copy of his speech before launching into his address that took aim at his political opponents and boasted of his own achievements.
During the speech, Pelosi was seen biting her lip and shaking her head when Trump claimed he saved the pre-existing condition provision of Obamacare – a law Pelosi fought to get passed and he then tried to dismantle.
The president was met with cries of ‘four more years’ from Republicans.
Pelosi, who stood on camera next to an applauding Vice President Mike Pence, then ripped up her copy of the speech and threw it down when Trump was done speaking.
‘I tore it up,’ Pelosi told reporters after.
‘It was the courteous thing to do considering the alternative. It was such a dirty speech.’
The feud came the night before Trump was acquitted of the two charges in his impeachment trial.
